So simple; read your writing out loud or have someone read your writing to you out loud. You'd be amazed how many awkward or cumbersome phrases you will find using this technique. You can self-identify and correct spelling errors, sentence fragments, comma splices and more by simply making a little noise.

For the student who still writes very short and simple sentences, try adding a YOFABS to your writing.
