| Gathering Information
The range of problems that can interfere with success
is staggering. Any efforts that you can make at this
point to identify the problem will improve your chances
of finding a timely solution. You must explore with
those who work and have worked with your child to discover
more specific aspects of the learning profile. Consider
some of the following:
- Is the child attentive in a group setting? One-on-one?
- Does the child follow directions? Spoken? Written?
- Does the child understand what he or she reads?
Hears?
- Does the child remember short-term information?
Long-term?
- Is the child impulsive? Easily distracted? Distracting
to others?
- Is disorganization a constant problem?
- Does the child socialize appropriately for his/her
age group?
- Does the child need additional time to complete
tasks?
- Are there other medically related factors?
When you have exhausted your own self-study and included
additional input from the school personnel and others
who know your child well, you are ready to use this
Directory.
