Licensed, Clinical Social Workers do goal-oriented
psychotherapy with individuals or families. When a child
is suspected of having a learning difference or attentional
problems, the social worker would make a general assessment
of the referrals for psycho-educational testing, have
consultations with other professionals who have seen
the child, if necessary, and perform the appropriate
interventions.
Specific Questions:
- How will you determine or diagnose the nature of
my child's problem?
- Will you define the specific goals for remediation
for us?
- How will your therapy differ from that of a psychologist
or psychiatrist?
- Do you deal with problems that can be helped by
medication, and will you refer us to someone who can
prescribe medication if that step seems appropriate?
- How do you work with the family and the child?
