Things to ask an administrator
or an admissions officer
1 What is the school most proud of?

Is it academic, extracurricular, social, or something else? Is it student centered, teacher centered, or school or community centered? Is what they say at the heart of what you are looking for?

2 Where is the school trying to improve?

You may want to repeat this question after getting an initial response. "What else are you trying to improve, sometimes can give you more insight into places the school really wants to improve. Also, the answers will not be about negatives, because in recognizing them as problems and focussing on them the school is probably going to get much better soon.

3 Define a successful student. What percentage of your students meets this criterion for success?

Success can take on many forms, does your criterion fit with the schools?

4 What kinds of structures and freedoms are in place to help your child be successful?

Armed with a definition of success, find out the specifics as to how the school helps students achieve its goals.

5 How does the school communicate with me about my child? About things happening in school?

Communication between school and home is often a key factor to a student's success. It must happen smoothly.
