auditory attention ability to stay focused while listening

auditory discrimination distinguishing among and understanding different sounds

auditory memory remembering what is heard

conceptual-abstract inferential thinking, understanding ideas and concepts, synthesis, creative thinking

concrete thinking literal thinking, "nuts and bolts", the facts

decoding associating the written symbol with its correct sound for reading

focus "tuning into" what's important, "tuning out" distractions

hyperactivity "fidgetiness", restless movement

impulsivity leaping before looking, speaking before thinking

language (expressive) communicating information to others through language (writing, speaking)

language (receptive) taking in information that is communicated through language (reading, listening)

math (computation) "number crunching", addition, subtraction, working through equations

math (concepts/applications) math concepts and ideas, why and when they apply and why and when to use them

memory for information presented within a meaningful context a context that the learner can relate to, or has experience with

metacognition self-knowledge about how one learns, how one processes information, and what to do if there's a breakdown in that process

motor (fine) movement involving smaller muscle systems such as wrist, hand and finger, e.g. handling tools for writing, drawing

performance anxiety anxiousness about completing homework, taking tests, completing papers

self-advocacy the ability to speak to about one's learning style and what one needs in the way of accommodations in school/workplace to be successful

sequential processing linear, serial, proceeding in a step-by-step fashion

simultaneous processing holistic, integrating, seeing the whole picture all at once

speed of information processing the rate at which an individual can efficiently handle input and output (auditory, visual, tactile-kinesthetic)

visual discrimination distinguishing among and understanding different images

visual memory remembering what is seen Ê visual motor eye-hand coordination

visual spatial seeing objects in space, e.g. 2 - 3 dimensions

word retrieval the ability to access a word(s) in memory storage; "it's right on the tip of my tongue!"
